Beautiful hands deserve beautiful nails

In the same way that you should moisturise your face twice a day, it’s important to keep your hands hydrated. Without enough moisture, you will quickly suffer from dry skin and ragged cuticles. Stock up on small tubes of your favourite hand cream with a sun protection factor – keep one in your handbag, one in your car, one on your desk, and put one on your bedside table so that you can moisturise your hands and nails wherever you are. Apply hand cream onto damp skin, right after you wash your hands, to help lock in hydration.

Healthy nails are beautiful nails

Healthy fingernails are smooth, without pits or grooves. They’re uniform in colour and free of spots or discolouration. During any manicure or pedicure you receive a relaxing massage of the hands or feet which helps to improve blood circulation and improves mobility for the joints. With regular manicures and pedicures, the chances of your nails developing fungi and other infections are reduced. If you’re concerned about the health of your nails, consult a dermatologist.

Signs of Healthy Nails:
v Nail plates are an even flesh tone
v Cuticles are intact – never cut them
v Your nails are uniform in shape
v A prominent half-moon shaped white section is visible at nail base

Your hands need not be a tell-tale sign of your age

In the same way that the rest of your body benefits from regular exfoliation, the skin your hands will benefit from the same treatment. Sloughing off the top layer of skin on your hands will reveal younger looking skin underneath.  Once or twice a week, use a sugar scrub – made with one teaspoon of sugar combined with coconut oil – to give your hands a quick and light exfoliation. This will keep them smooth and soft – and help to eliminate brown age spots. The key is to exfoliate on a regular basis. Make sure to treat yourself to a regular manicure – nothing finishes off beautiful hands better than professionally polished nails.

Five ways to treat your feet the way you treat your face

1.      Kick off by soaking your feet for 5 to10 minutes in warm water and Epsom salts, which helps eliminate toxins in the body.
2.      Cleanse your feet from top to bottom and make sure to scrub between your toes and clean underneath your nails.
3.      Massage your feet frequently – a good rubdown will bring oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and remove waste.
4.      Moisturise each night, paying special attention to the heels. For nails and cuticles use olive oil or almond oil for hydration.
5.       Wear sunscreen! Our feet are one of the body parts we often forget to protect from the sun’s rays.  Be sure to slather it on from head to toe when you go out and about this summer.

He’s phoning to ask if you’d like to have a drink after work. You jump into action – a lunchtime dash to get a wash & blow dry and just enough time to pop in Origin Wellness Spa to shape and paint your nails a luscious deep red. Voila – you own the night!

Protect your hands and nails from wear and tear

Whenever you’re deep cleaning your home, or gardening, or doing anything that involves soaking your hands in hot sudsy water it is important to protect your hands and nails – and your manicure – by wearing suitable gloves.  Washing dishes in hot, soapy water without gloves can weaken your nails – while the wear and tear caused by cleaning or gardening then scrubbing up afterwards can damage your nails and leaving you with dry, flaky skin on your hands.  To promote extra soft skin, apply hand cream directly before you put on your protective gloves.
