Hello autumn! You don’t have to say goodbye to glowing summer skin

Hello autumn! You don’t have to say goodbye to glowing summer skin

Winter is on its way, bringing with it cold temperatures and chilly winds that are tough on our skins.  Staying indoors doesn’t help because indoor heating tends to deplete our skin of its natural moisture, leaving it dry and lacking in lustre. Protect your skin against the harshness of winter by drinking a lot of water or warm herbal teas, and adding more intensive moisturisers to your daily full-body skin care routine.

Our Hydrating Facial helps to improve dry, flaky and dehydrated skin.

Choose your winter cleanser carefully

Choose your winter cleanser carefully

Winter is a time when you should be focused on protecting your skin’s moisture. Some facial cleansers can strip your skin of natural oils and dry it out. Over time this can lead to an increase in visible lines and wrinkles.   We recommend you swap your gel or foam cleanser for an ultra-hydrating cream or oil-based cleanser.

At the start of winter treat yourself to our Purifying and Deep Cleansing Facial with extractions.  It helps to clear clogged pores and other skin impurities.

Intensify your winter moisturising routine

Intensify your winter moisturising routine

Your summer moisturising routine will probably not be enough to keep winter skin at bay over the chilly months. Your skin will most likely need more moisture, more often.

  1. If you usually use a moisturising lotion, you may need to switch to a moisturising cream.
  2. Moisturising is particularly important at night, even for oily skin, as your face loses more moisture overnight than at any other part of the day.
  3. Regularly apply a hydrating facial mask.

The same goes for your whole body!  Treat yourself to our Aromatherapy Massage with highly concentrated plant oils added to the massage oil. This promotes relaxation, decongestion and healing.

Don’t skip sunscreen this winter

Though you may be less exposed to the sun in winter, this does not mean you should stop protecting your skin from the sun’s rays altogether in sunny South Africa. Some moisturisers do have a built in sunscreen, so make sure yours carries an SPF (sun protection factor) of 15 or higher.

Has languishing in the summer sun left you with uneven pigmentation?  At the start of winter treat yourself to our Corrective Facial for uneven pigmentation and combination skin types.

Exfoliate to reveal your all-year-round summer glow

Exfoliate to reveal your all-year-round summer glow

Exfoliation, or removing the oldest dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface, will bring back a summer glow that is so often lost during the winter months.  However, don’t overdo it – if you do choose to exfoliate, keep it to once a week if you have dry or normal skin, or twice a week if your skin is oily.

Our Origin Man Facial includes double exfoliation and extractions to relieve the discomfort of shaving.

Hey sugar – try a natural sugar scrub

Hey sugar – try a natural sugar scrub to prevent chapped lips this winter!

Chapped lips are a winter curse. We recommend you stave off dry, flaky skin on your lips with a homemade sugar scrub. Simply mix some regular sugar with coconut oil, and rub gently on your lips once a day. You can add a little honey for its healing properties.

Feel like your whole face could use pre-winter revitalising? Book a Hello Pumpkin Enzyme Skin Peel with its natural exfoliation treatment for rejuvenating, clarifying and purifying your skin.

Take cooler, shorter showers

Take cooler, shorter showers to protect your skin this winter

Hot showers feel great in winter, but hot water saps skin of its natural oils. Try to limit any long, hot showers or baths to once or twice a week, and choose to shower in lukewarm water for the rest of the week.  Apply moisturising cream immediately after patting your skin dry.

Not only is deep tissue massage a great antidote for accumulated stress, massage therapy has been proven to improve skin hydration that will see your skin glow in the winter months.

Eat healthily and stay hydrated

Your skin can be affected by many factors, which include climate, environmental pollution, your health and the food you eat. Simple sugars and carbohydrates can stimulate adverse reactions in your skin that may lead to acne breakouts. Avoid these sugars and carbs in your daily diet because healthier, stronger skin cells retain more moisture and have a more supple form, so skin won’t crack with dryness.

Feed your skin this winter with our Baobab Tree Vitamin C treatment which visibly firms, tightens, brightens your skin while refining your pores.

Protect your skin against winter with a regular facial

Many professional facial treatments seal in a layer of vitamins and antioxidants that will help to protect your skin against harsh winter elements.  To combat dull winter skin, we recommend a professional facial about every three to four weeks using top quality skin care products.  In addition to helping you to feel relaxed and refreshed, a facial will give your skin a wonderful instant glow.
